The Basics: A 30x Requirement Requires 30x Play

So what does that 30x really mean? Multiplied directly and simply, a 30x requirement means you need to place 30 times the size of your eligible play, first into the requirement. But how that formula is written matters a great deal.

A bonus-only rule counts only the value of the bonus, an amount granted to the player on top of their own funds. The 30x multiplier then requires 30 times that amount to be wagered. So a $100 bonus with a 30x rule requires $3,000 in total wagers, regardless of the deposit amount.

A deposit-plus-bonus 30x rule on the other hand takes the deposit amount and adds the bonus grant amount to reach a new total. Then it takes 30 times the sum. So on a $100 deposit with a $100 bonus, that's 30 times an effective $200 total, for $6,000 of turnover in total.

Complex? Only slightly. But knowing which kind of rule you're working with is the key to knowing what the stated wagering requirement really means.

Game Weighting: Not All Wagers Are Equal

Finally on to the last big element: game weighting. Think of this as a way for the operator to prioritize or block certain kinds of play. Ultimately it's one of the ways that wagering rules reshape the effective terms past the headline rule in play.

Slots are favored with full weights, so you can clear the requirement fastest with play at these games. But some kinds of play may count at only 10 percent, or may be excluded.

The rules can shape that. Slot play usually counts in full to clear a wagering requirement. But table game play, and sometimes a casino's full suite of table play, may not count at all, or may be subject to only partial weighting. The effect is important: if $110 at table games clears $10, while $310 at slots does, then the slots player may have to repeat their stake recognition closer to three times to clear the same $10 in bonus. Imagine you just got a $100 bonus and the casino's fine print states a 30x wagering requirement. At first glance, you might think that means you need to place $300 in total wagers to unlock the cash. Think again.

The dollar figure you need to meet breaks down in two steps. The bonus's value is multiplied, but the tool for doing so differs: operators can assign the 30x multiplier to the bonus alone, or they can task you with 30x the sum of the bonus along with the associated deposit. So the same deposit that could clear $3,000 at one operator would need $6,000 at another, and it all turns on which kind of 30x rule is in play.

Here's an example: Say a casino offers 30x play through on a $100 bonus.

• With a bonus-only rule: 30 times the $100 bonus is $3,000 in total
• With a deposit-plus-bonus rule, the new total is $200

When multiplied by your deposits it takes a big swing upward: $3,000 to clear at an operator with a bonus-only requirement, $6,000 in the same space at a deposit-plus-bonus variant, on the same total bonus value.

And here's how weighting makes the difference, in exactly the same place.$100 at slots could count to clear $10, while $110 at table games did, then your slots play carried you three times as far forward in meeting that requirement. And understanding game weighting outright and is key to recognizing exactly how you might have to recalibrate your wagering efforts to clear the bonus.

Fine Print: Time Limits and Bet Minimum

That brings us to two other ways wagering rules aren't as straightforward as the headline number suggests: time limits and minimum bets. Let's take a closer look at each:

Time Limits on Repayment: Most wagering requirements have a timeline in the fine print: turn over $100 into $1,000 and they'll only count if you meet them, and that's exactly what obscure timelines help to enforce. Find a casino with a 30x, $3,000 requirement. Then discover, down at the text to meet tabs of the terms, that their 14-day expiry pushes you to meet $210 daily; fast, because trying to rush can sometimes wreck the playing field.

A Max Bet Rule: Meanwhile, another common term may specify a maximum bet allowable during wagering. Sometimes that'll be a little different from the operator's overall non-bonus slots max, and always it's a rule with teeth. Bet over that stated figure and you risk losing out on some or all of the bonus cash: check the terms and conditions when selecting, and select the terms and conditions when questioning, even if you've met the wagering requirement.
